Ardha Padmasana
Ardha padmasana intermediate variation of padmasana, the yoga posture often used for meditation. The name is derived from the Sanskrit padma, meaning "lotus," and asana, meaning "pose". It is considered as a preparatory Asana for Padmasana, therefore one should practise this Asana first. It keeps the body upright, while the position of the leg allows the posture to feel stable, supported and balanced. This asana allows the body to remain still for long period of time so that the mind can focus. Benefits of Ardha Padmasana: The Half Lotus posture(Ardha Padmasana) helps reduce excess in the body especially in the abdominal region. It aids in better functioning of the digestive and excretory systems. The yoga posture assists in the cure of pain in the knees, ankles, and back. Its practice helps those suffering. Note: Since the position of legs is like half of that od padmasana(not completed one),the posture is called "Ardha Padmasana."
