Padmasana

  




Padmasana or Lotus Position is a cross-legged sitting asana originating in meditative practices of ancient India, in which each foot is placed on the opposite thigh. It is an ancient asana, predating hatha yoga, and is commonly used for meditation, in the Yoga, Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist contemplative traditions.

Purpose of the lotus position-

The pose is often used as a resting pose to calm the mind and body as well as focus on controlled breathing. It also stretches the muscles of the hips and back. Begin by sitting on the floor with your legs out in front of you. Exhale and bring your right foot in toward your body, placing it on your left thigh.
